Defining Balkan music is a tricky endeavor; even more daunting is incorporating the folk music from the Balkan region and putting a contemporary stamp onto it. The Montgomery County-based band, the Balkanics, pulls the latter feat off superbly with music that utilizes many indigenous instruments such as the gaida and the tupan as well as modern instruments, including electric keyboards and the drum set.
